AURFC faced off against Loyola University this weekend under the lights at Woodrow Wilson High School. AU started the match strong with strong rucking in the forwards and completely dominant scrums. The backline moved the ball well and put heavy pressure on the Loyola backs, especially on the fringe. First points came from fullback Reed Murray, who kicked a penalty to raise the score to 3-0. Our first try came from new player Chris, who exploded through several tackles before running the final twenty yards for a try. Reed completed the conversion to raise the score to 10-0. AU continued to play with intensity, and just before the end of the first half fly-half Connor Lawrence dodged through Loyola's drift defense to put another 5 points on the board. Loyola came out strong in the second half, correcting on many of their first half mistakes. AU lost some discipline and gave away too many penalties, allowing Loyola to march up the field and score two converted tries. AU finally took back control of the ball and managed to slow the game down until the clock ran out, ending the day with a win. Final score 15-14. Big thank you to all of the awesome fans who came out to support us in our first home match. Looking forward to seeing you all at the next one!
